This bathroom renovation might just be one of our favorites to date—mostly because it proves you don’t have to play it safe in every room of your home. Small spaces are the perfect place to have a little fun, and our Drunken Monkey Bathroom is all about personality, texture, and bold design choices that somehow still feel timeless.
Starting With the Bones: Board & Batten
We kicked things off by adding board and batten to the lower portion of the walls. This instantly gave the space more character and architectural interest—something it was seriously lacking before. It also helped balance the bold elements we knew were coming later.
For paint, we chose Agreeable Gray by Sherwin-Williams. It’s one of those colors that truly lives up to its name—warm, neutral, and incredibly versatile. Against the board and batten, it grounded the room and kept everything from feeling too busy.
The Star of the Show: Drunk Monkeys Wallpaper
Once the board and batten were finished, it was time for the fun part. We installed the “Drunk Monkeys” wallpaper from Astek Wallpaper, and honestly… it completely transformed the space.
The playful monkeys, rich colors, and slightly cheeky vibe brought so much life into the bathroom. This is one of those moments where leaning into a bold choice really paid off. Wallpaper in a bathroom can feel intimidating, but in a smaller space, it becomes a statement instead of an overwhelming element.
A Modern Upgrade: Floating Vanity
Next up was the vanity, and we knew we wanted something clean and modern to balance the wallpaper. We installed the Sabina Floating Bathroom Vanity from Hernest, and it could not be more perfect for this space.
The floating design keeps the room feeling open and airy, while still providing plenty of storage. It’s functional, sleek, and pairs beautifully with the more traditional board and batten and the bold wallpaper above.
New Tile + Updated Fixtures
To finish things off, we retiled the shower and swapped out all of the old fixtures for fresh, updated ones. These details might seem small, but they make a huge difference. New tile instantly made the bathroom feel cleaner and more cohesive, while the updated fixtures tied everything together and gave the space that finished, intentional look.
The Final Result
This bathroom is proof that design doesn’t always have to be serious to be good. Mixing classic elements like board and batten with playful wallpaper and modern finishes created a space that feels layered, unique, and completely us.
